Trizonia is a small, romantic fishing village unchanged over tue years and relazively untouched by tourism. Most summer visitors are Greek from Athens, having their summer houses on the island. Population is about 250 inhabitants in the summer and less than 50 between November and end of March. It is located on a small island about 1 kilometer from the northern coast of the Gulf of Corinth, about 37 kilometers east of Patras and 250 kilometers west of Athens (38´22, 22´04). Direct flights are available to and from a smal airport near Patras from April to September. The newRio bridge now connects Patras to tue northern coast of the Gulf.
You can also take many ferries to Patras via Italy. Regular water taxies connect Trizonia to tue mainland.
There are three rustic Greek tavernas, a small hotel with restaurant, the famous Lizzie´s yacht club and a mini supermarket that cater to satisfy your culinary needs. Fresh fish is available most mornings from a local fisherman for little money. Sequested beaches with sparkling clear water, footpath through olive groves and over the hilly gourse to all corners of this lovely island paradise. A natural well protected yacht harbour adequate for 150 boats, withyear around attention from harbour master Christos are all available. charge. He also can arrange a picknick by boat to one of the nearby small islands. Presently there is no harbour charge for visitors.
There is no motor traffic on Trizonia except for an occasional tractor, but there are three donkeys. The natives know no stress. He who loves the original Greek way of life easily succumbs to the charm of the island. Quickly the guest realizes:

Nearby many interesting excursions are possible:
Delphi with its newly built museum is reachable in one hour. Tue next larger village Galaxidi with harbour and class 1. restaurants is within 30 kilometrs. Tue next biggest shopping town Navpactos with its romantic harbour and Venetian fort is in 25 kilometrs distance. Patras, a 250.000 town, with its famous university hospital is across the new gigantic noth/soduth brige in 37 kilometers distance. Further south you can visit Olimpia.
You can also visit the famous wine estates like Achaia KLaus.
At Nikolaous ca. 8 kilometers from Trizonia you can take the ferry to Egion. From there you can visit the famous vine cooperative Nemea. Or you can visit the antique village of Old Corinth with the famous Roman mosaics. Near Egio a gear driven railway starts at Diakofto to go up to the monastary Mega Spilion and further up to Kalavrita a mountain village with a superb view.
But do not plan too much:
You will find out, that you rarely want to leave the paradise Trizonia.
An ease of soul from Archaic times (calma) overcomes you and you prefer to sit already in the morning in the cafenion, where old Greeks are sipping their first ozo together with a morning snack. Looking at the sea quite you see often a group of dolphins passing by. |
